The Conservation Zone

The Croscombe Conservation Zone

One of our ongoing projects is the care and maintenance of the Conservation Zone.

Consisting of a small wooded area, a pond and small seating area, it is a perfect zone for the children to safely get away from the business of school and take in the importance of nature.

Our Pond is home to Smooth Newts, Common Frogs, Water Slaters, Pond Snails, Waters Beetles, Water Boatmen, Pond Skaters and Dragon Flies. This diverse array of insects also helps attract many varieties of birds, including both Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Blue, Coal & Long-tailed tits, Song Thrush and blackbirds, Robins and many many more.

To enable this Zone to thrive we need the help of the parents to maintain it, from trimming trees and mowing the grass to clearing the pond weed in the Summer.

We believe that this area gives the children of Croscombe a rare experience, an experience that almost no other schools in the area can offer, a chance to experience  nature in its purest form......why wouldn't we want to maintain it??
